‘Zalava’ to vie at Karlovy Vary filmfest

Iranian movie ‘Zalava’ is scheduled to vie at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival (KVIFF) in the Czech Republic.

Iranian movie ‘Zalava’ is scheduled to vie at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival (KVIFF) in the Czech Republic.

Directed by Arsalan Amiri, the film will represent Iran at the midnight screenings section of the 56th edition of the event.

‘Zalava’ will have three screening sessions on May 6, 9 and 19, competing with selected horror movies from around the world.

The movie narrates an imaginary story in an imaginary land with imaginary people in the 70s.

The inter-genre film narrates the tale of people’s fear of an unknown phenomenon and their efforts to bring back security to the region.

A synopsis for ‘Zalava’ reads, “When a village claims to be cursed by a demon, a gendarmerie sergeant attempts to denounce the exorcist in charge, whom he believes is nothing but a fraud.

The Karlovy Vary Festival is one of the oldest in the world and has become Central and Eastern Europe’s leading film event.

The festival unveiled its official selection, which comprises 33 films from five continents, screening across three sections, also including Crystal Globe Competition and Special Screenings section.

The upcoming edition of the festival will be held on July 10-18, 2022.
